The Kon-Tiki2 Expedition is ready to set sails for South America!
Launch time: 4pm (GMT-5): 4 January 2016
This is the second part of the expedition, and if successful, will be the first expedition to sail across the Pacific on a balsa wood raft from Rapa Nui (The Easter Island) to mainland South America and Peru. The expedition will follow another route than in the first part. Here explained through the words of expedition leader Håkon Wium Lie:
"From Rapa Nui, the course is due south for almost 1,000 miles until we reach the infamous Roaring Forties where we find strong winds for eastward sailing. We end up in the cold waters of the Humboldt current (Peruvian Current). Doing so we will do what no one has done before in modern times."
We are all very excited!
