In collaboration with the Czech Embassy, we were fortunate to meet the engineer and archaeologist Pavel Pavel. Pavel participated on Thor Heyerdahl’s second expedition to Easter Island in 1986. The aim of the expedition was to figure out how the Moai statues had previously been transported on the Island. By using ropes and getting help from local residents, the expedition members managed to actually move a standing Moai of 15 tons! Pavel Pavel has since been known as the man who made the Moai «walk».
